On the table at Bristol
It’s the Bristol Comic Expo this weekend, May 12-13th, 2012, and it’s the first event we’ll be attending as Improper Books. Joining the other creators and exhibitors in the Brunel Old Station, will be Benjamin Read, Laura Trinder, Chris Wilgdoose, Bevis Musson and Matt Gibbs.
Over the weekend, Benjamin and Chris will be signing a limited run of B&W previews of BUTTERFLY GATE: BEGINNINGS and the first part of PORCELAIN: A GOTHIC FAIRY TALE; Laura will be talking about and sharing samples from her and Benjamin’s upcoming book, NIGHT POST; and Bevis will be launching his own DEAD QUEEN DETECTIVES OMNIBUS. Bevis, Chris and Laura will also be sketching at the table and taking commissions.
Butterfly Gate follows the story of two siblings who, after throwing themselves headlong into another world, must face the brutal reality that lies beyond and find their place amidst an empire built after a revolution against the Gods.
Porcelain: A Gothic Fairy Tale is the story of Child, an urchin, who leaves behind the cold streets of a snowy city when she climbs the high wall into the Porcelain Maker’s garden. A lonely man, kept company by his amazing, alchemically-powered automata, the Porcelain Maker offers Child the chance to stay with him, and the unlikely pair come to an understanding.
In addition to previewing her portfolio of Night Post samples, Laura has made some postcards and badges inspired by three of the customers our Postie encounters in the story. These, alongside postcards and badges based on Butterfly Gate and Porcelain by Chris, will be available on the table.
‘Individually they used to rule one of the mightiest empires on Earth. Now they’re dead and share a house in Saint Grover’s Avenue, Hove. Together they are The Dead Queen Detectives.’
Collecting The Dead Queen Detectives #1, #2 and The Corporate Skull Detectives, alongside new material and a look at the stars of issue #3, Bevis’ the The Dead Queen Detectives Omnibus is 52 pages in length.
